How is AI being used in our Daily Lives?

Andrea Forde – Scoil Mhuire, Cork

Hi, I am Andrea Forde. I live in Cork and go to Scoil Mhuire which is in Cork city. I was told about the Confirm TY week by my year head and by my parents. After looking into the course and Confirms website I decided that this course lines up with my interests and what I want to do in the future.

I have liked all aspects of this course so far, but my favourite parts have been listening to the different researchers and seeing the different demos. This course has opened my eyes to a wider variety of careers that I can now investigate. The different speakers have also given me a new interest in a broad range of topics I was not as interested in before.

Before this course I did not even have a fundamental understanding of AI and how they work but now I feel like I could explain to someone the basics of how AI are run and developed. Before this when I thought of smart manufacturing, I did not entirely think of science or technology but mostly menial labour.

For my poster topic I am doing how we use AI in our daily lives. Which is something I did not really think about before. For my poster I researched what items that most people used daily, used AI. I also asked what items from a list they think use an AI and why. I found that most people (at least in those who took my survey) knew the basics of what services used AI and how they work. This follows what I assumed the results would be like.

Overall, this has been an incredibly positive experience, and I am grateful I got the opportunity.
