Science Week 2020 is upon us!
This year, CONFIRM secured additional funding from Science Foundation Ireland under the Science Week Events funding call and, thanks to this support from SFI, we have a busy schedule of events planned for the week!
Primary Schools
CONFIRM provided Robotics kits to 9 Primary Schools around the country and delivered an online training session to participating teachers to allow them to deliver manufacturing themed robotics activities to their pupils during Science Week. At the end of the week, these pupils will virtually meet with CONFIRM researchers for a live, STEM Q&A session.
Second Level/ Undergraduates
This year, the theme of Science Week is “Choosing Our Future”. With this in mind, CONFIRM have reached out to Transition Year and Undergraduate students to get their views on how technological advancement will impact future generations. Participants have been invited to submit short video clips outlining their views with prizes up for grabs for six lucky entries.
Panel Discussion
In collaboration with Lero & SSPC, CONFIRM will co-host a panel discussion on Wednesday 11th November at 6pm entitled “Life with Intelligent Machines”. The discussion will explore the concept of machines with respect to each of our panelists research areas and explore some of the ways in which current advancements in machines and technology have positively impacted society. #MeetTheResearcher
Keep an eye on our website and social media (Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin) this week where we will be posting interviews with our researchers as part of our #MeetTheResearcher blog series. Here you can learn what inspired some of our PhD students, Post-Docs and Research Fellows to pursue careers in STEM and find out about some of the projects they are working on.
