As part of our TY work experience week during Engineers Week 2020, we asked our placement students to write a short blog post outlining their experience with CONFIRM. We will be posting these periodically over the next month so keep an eye on the website for updates!
Here is our third instalment from Hendrik, an exchange student from Cologne in Germany:
“My name is Hendrik, I’m 15 years old and I’m from Cologne, Germany. I took part in a week of work experience at CONFIRM in March this year. I am currently on a school exchange to Ireland and CONFIRM offered me a working experience together with host Ian. I learned many different things during the week including programming of an Artificial Intelligence and how a 3D printer works.
My favourite part of the week was the 3D printing workshop because it was presented in a really interesting way. It was exciting to learn how to use SolidWorks (the software we used to design what we would later 3D print) and use it to design our own personalised keyring. The presentation was also very informative and we learned some really interesting things about 3D printing in general.
I would definitely recommend CONFIRM to other students for work placements because they will experience really exciting things like working with robots. It would be good for anybody who is interested in Robotics and technology. Additionally, it is a good experience for me to see how things at the University of Limerick work.”
