Rory Deegan – Coláiste Phobal Roscrea, Tipperary
Hello, my name is Rory Deegan. I’m 16 years old and I’m from Roscrea in County Tipperary. I attend Colaiste Phobal Roscrea. I joined CONFIRM TY because I am interested in science/physics and would like to learn more about it.
The thing I enjoyed most about this week was listening to all the different experts come in and talk about different things, from simulations to 3D printing it was all very interesting to learn about.
I learned about 3D printing and it’s potentials as well as where it’s used today. I learned that hospitals use 3D Printing to find exact perfect sizes for patients that need something. I also learned about the potential in 3D printing when I saw that real life-sized boats fit to hold 20 people are able to be 3D printed.
I also learned about Wireless Communication, I learned about what goes on behind it.
I learned about robots and how they are used in a manufacturing environment. I learned about their sensors and how they sense certain colours to navigate a path.
My poster is about AI and what exactly they are. It describes AI, how AI is a part of our everyday lives and a brief history of the concept of Artificial Intelligence and how it came to be what it is today.
In a survey, I discovered that the majority of people view AI in a positive light, however, some are unsure and this makes sense because in some ways AI provides a threat to humans as some fear jobs will be replaced by AI and in the most extreme theory is that AI will take over the world and eradicate humans. This scenario is extremely unlikely though. I also discovered how Artificial Intelligence is far more integrated in our world than most would think. AI is used in almost everything we do online even as I write this AI is checking my grammar and spelling and fixing it for me.
This was my experience with CONFIRM TY. Rory Deegan.
