I have a significant body of peer-reviewed research work, consisting of 183 papers including two books, four edited books, 16 book chapters, 33 journal papers, 78 conference papers, and 50 workshop/poster papers. I have also won best paper awards from SEMANTICS, ICEGOV, ESWC and IEEE PELS. I have over 5,000 citations and a h-index of 36.

I was recognised with an Outstanding Contribution Award by the Information Technology Association of Galway in 2016 for working with and promoting the ICT sector in the region. I was also a finalist for the 2014 Research2Business award from Knowledge Transfer Ireland that recognises excellence in engagement between researchers and the business community. My research work has also had very significant impact: I am creator of the SIOC project, results of which have been implemented in over a hundred Semantic Web applications including systems from companies like Yahoo!, Boeing, Newsweek, Vodafone, and deployed on tens of thousands of websites, as well as cited in patents granted/applied for by IBM, Google and Siemens. I am co-founder of, and the PorterShed.
