Dr. Thomas Neww is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Engineering in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at The University of Limerick. He holds a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering, a Masters in Engineering in Security Protocol Design and a PhD in Formal Logics for Security Protocol Verification. He has been a University of Limerick faculty member since 1994. During this time he graduated a number of PhD students in the broad area of network security and IoT and his students are funded from a variety of sources including: EU, SFI, IRC, Internationally and industrially funded.

Thomas is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering in the University of Limerick, group leader of the IoT/ WSN Security activities in the Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre and the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems, and a FI in the MaREI , CONFIRM and Lero - SFI National Research Centres.

Dr. Newe’s background as an embedded systems designer and programmer affords him insight into the problems that can occur with bringing Industry 4.0 & Smart Manufacturing solutions to the Irish manufacturing sector. Toms experience in this area allows him to deliver secure solutions across a diverse range of Smart Manufacturing issues both within his own research groups and in collaboration with researchers from other expert areas across the centre.
