Meet the Researcher: Zohaib Ijaz

Zohaib is a CONFIRM PhD student based at University College Cork.

” If you have the drive to keep going despite the circumstances then think about doing a PhD. I assure you that you will enjoy it!”

Tell us a bit about your research...

What I am trying to do is make communication systems more accurate and reliable so that we can enjoy good quality of wireless communication in terms of Internet or cellular communication.

What did you study as an Undergraduate?

I completed my undergraduate in Electronics Engineering from Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. I studied different circuit analysis and basic mathematical subjects over the 4 years of my bachelors degree.

What made you decide to go into research?

During my bachelors, I found that I was really good at making mathematical models of systems, which lead me to study control systems and pursue my studies in this field. Before I started my PhD, I completed a Masters to learn more about the research process.

What do you enjoy most about being a PhD Student?

Being a PhD student means you are responsible for your own life, whether some one pushes you or not, whether you like to work or not, in any case you have to do your work. This makes me feel that a PhD is all about how responsible you are which makes me happy and I enjoy this!

Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about a career or research in STEM?

A PhD is an ongoing path, if you have the drive to keep going despite the circumstances then think about doing a PhD. I assure you that you will enjoy it!
