CONFIRM is the Science Foundation Ireland funded research centre for Smart Manufacturing based at the University of Limerick. Our research focuses on the integration of technology in manufacturing as part of the 4th industrial revolution.
A key element of CONFIRM’s work is our Education & Public Engagement programme which aims to demystify Science Technology Engineering and Maths research for a range of stakeholders including the general public. This is achieved through an extensive programme of activities delivered by CONFIRM researchers across Ireland.
CONFIRM’s research area is very broad incorporating various technologies such as robotics, Artificial Intelligence, sensors, data and cybersecurity.
The aim of ED-SMART (Encouraging Dialogue around Smart Manufacturing through Artistic Representations of Technology) is to enhance the ability of the public to engage with the research taking place in CONFIRM through the creation of a range of artistic pieces created under several themes linked to CONFIRM’s research. These will be showcased through a public exhibition which will take place during Science Week 2021.
Participating artists will work collaboratively with a team of CONFIRM researchers to create pieces under these themes. Materials for the creation of these will be funded to the maximum value of €300 and a piece will be selected by public vote during the exhibition to receive a prize.
Selected pieces will also be permanently displayed at the CONFIRM HQ in Limerick following the main exhibition as part of the Industry 4.0 experience.
